Folding Bike Racing

RACE REVIEW: (Pictures coming soon)

With media camera’s in our face and Kansi banking on a good performance on and off the bike the pressure was on.

Luckily Kansi had brought in Germain Burton the 16 yr old national youth champ tipped to win the Tour de France in future years – son of Maurice Burton – 3 times British Champion cycling amongst names like Eddy Merx. At double his age I was still hoping experience could conquer youth.

The heats passed eventfully with Will unluckily losing his chain, Kansi Adam leading the first lap before losing heat after flying start, Brent surprising us all with a 7th place, Simon battling my sister, Nat and Tor for a spot in the final and the long distance runners surprising us all with their strength – Jen smashing it and Rob W qualifying in a great time. I played a tactical race saving my energy for the final coming in 20metres behind Germaine in 10th place but with fresh legs.

My two adventure buddies Dave and Steve, more used to thousands of mile journey rather than 2miles struggled to find their sprint legs but for sure didn’t get lost.

The star of the heats was Laura ‘the fist’ Clarke – who, although finishing second from last, was awarded with most mentioned rider with her seductive office wear and smile.

A pit stop in the pub for raucous dancing, beers (for those not qualified and Rob) and chips led us to the final, which again was shortened to 3laps of the 1k loop. As the flag was dropped competitors run to their steeds and start pumping their legs to get them up to speed. Brent and Rob set off like rockets along side myself on our super fast Kansi bikes and I was soon in the lead bunch – hot on the heals of Germaine.

I asked the crowd in Lance style, “is my chain still on?” – I felt like a machine – there was no pressure as my legs span faster and faster. Suddenly I realised that I was losing every – my chain had actually fallen!! A stop of 30 seconds means you can go from front to back – leaving too much work to get back into the action.

Brent finished top half smashing our main rival Darren Over of Brompton!! : ) But I have to confess that he beat me and Rob – leaving me eating my words before the race!! And our man Germaine was pipped to second.

Next Year – I’m going to glue the chain to the bike with super glue – that’ll work right?!

A quick team meeting got a bit passionate!!

Danny loves to whizz round town on his Kansi folding bike.

On the 11th of June he will be trying to prove that he is the fastest man in London on a folding bike!! (He may also attempt to complete an Ironman if he’s allowed) This is the only time you will see Danny in a suit and tie. He’s setting up team Kansi.

(Note: Kansi now sponsor the whole event)

Thanks everyone for submitting your entries for the Kansi Folding Bike team. There was such a fantastic response and after reviewing them Kansi have chosen their team.
