This is a love story. It is also a true story. Our main character is a boy born in the Peak District amongst the bubbling Buxton springs.

dan bentNestled in a green and thriving valley a new born boy lies in his simple cot. Two pairs of eyes look on him from above. Eyes full of pride, care, but most importantly love. This boy doesn't know it yet but he has been blessed. The people that belong to these eyes will give him powers that will take years to develop, powers that only the deepest and most sincere nurturing can develop.

Two of the finest human specimens on planet earth, Angela Bush and Chris Bent formed a bond through love and gave their genetic structure to our boy, then gave their combined love. They were entrusted with the rearing of the boy, shaping his future, making him what he is today. They gave everything, nothing was too hard, nothing was too much effort, nothing shifted their undying love from our boy and his two sisters.

He wanted to play football, he wanted to play rugby (sometimes playing both on the same day) and his father, Chris, was there for every second of every game. Chris also taught him to iron, to cook, the art of self discipline, embedding a try before you decide attitude. A love of music was passed down, encouraging and supporting the boy who wanted to do ballet, play the piano, trumpet, guitar. Watching as he fought in a ring trying to find his footing in life. Second in the world at ultra walking - what a role model for a boy who found running, cycling and swimming in a straight line was something he could excel at, representing great Britain on a number of occasions as he grew up.

Whilst Angela, his devoted mother, Chris's devoted husband, acted as an angel come down to earth. A woman who has never said a bad word about another living thing. A woman who takes the world in her arms and cradles everything and everyone on it as though it is a sick child. She has an unlimited ocean of love to share with the world. A lady who gave up being a star athlete to have children, who has since become world number two at marathon running for her age. Most of this ocean was lavished on her three children and the boy formed a bond with his mother that couldn't be broken with a sledgehammer.

The boy is me, Daniel Bent - the luckiest boy on planet earth.

I've had everything I could possible ever desire in life. Material possessions, maybe not. But when you are over-spilling with love, owning things you can touch doesnt have the same appeal. After graduating with a 1st class degree in Maths, I worked in the city for a trading firm. The money thrown around was ridiculous - people boasted about their position, their wage, their possessions - I, on the other hand, was embarrassed. How could I have been given so much and not give something back? I didn't need to think of me - enough people were doing that already. I wanted to think of someone else, something else.

Becoming a teacher brought some of what I desired. Children give and take in equal measure. They and their parents became my friends. A smile from a 7 year old can brighten your day, a look of 'oh, I get it' can warm the heart.

When I was offered a job in a reserve school in southern India I looked and saw my chance to really change things....
